In retrospect, Metallica’s fourth studio LP from 1988 …justice for all, It was going to be a big hit. In fact, former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar even bet his $100 on each member of the band.
Last Thursday (February 16th), Hagar posted a press photo of the 1988 Monsters of Rock Tour on Instagram. (In addition to Van Halen and Metallica, the international tour also included major artists such as Dokken, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Anthrax and Halloween.) …justice for all Upon its release, Hagar was so confident in the future of the thrash metal quartet that he bet money on the album’s success.
The photo caption reads:
A lot of metal here. This was the press conference for the Monsters of Rock stadium tour. I must admit that we had a great time with all these guys that day. Metallica hadn’t broken out yet with “Enter Sandman,” but they smashed it night after night, leaving Dokken, who had to follow them, badly hurt. Metallica members each bet $100 that their next record will go platinum at the end of this tour.Lars so far [Ulrich] and Kirk [Hammett] The only thing we paid for. Haha.
his point is …justice for all (which was his first record with bassist Jason Newsted) became Metallica’s best-selling album upon its release.In fact it debuted at No. 6 billboard 200 and went platinum nine weeks after its release. Since then he has been certified 8x platinum in the United States (to date he has sold over 8 million copies), and in Australia, Canada and Germany he has been certified 2x or 3x platinum. .
So will James Hetfield and Jason Newsted ever give Hagar the $100 they each owe? Only time will tell.
