As you know, MusicRadar offers 1 or 2 free samples.
Usually distributed through SampleRadar, a long-running series of free music sample giveaways. Occasionally, however, I come across similar examples of audio-based generosity elsewhere on the Internet, and I can’t help but feel compelled to share them with an audience of sample-hungry producers. One of those days.
Glitch With Friends is a series of sample packs from music collective glitch.[dot]How nice. Released in three parts, the sample pack contains a total of about 10 GB of free high-quality samples that share a glitch- and IDM-based aesthetic. They are very suitable for tracks made in these genres, but they contain a great variety of sounds here, making them worth a download for producers creating almost any kind of electronic music. .
There’s a truly huge amount of good samples here – from synthesized drums to heavy impacts, risers and FX, ethereal pads to dangerous bass riffs, honed textures to melodic loops. Everything. In addition to these custom sounds, there’s also a huge amount of field recordings, and even a selection of experimental sounds created by documenting “music and audio equipment being pushed to the point of failure.”
The creators say the creation of these packs included “iterative granular synthesis, salvaging data from a broken hard drive, time-stretching operations, data bending, data sonification and generative composition.”
glitch[dot]cool is a “collection of producers, sound designers, programmers and visual artists orbiting the glitch aesthetic” working to “promote and foster development in a burgeoning field at the intersection of technology and art”. I call myself that. I can say that they are incredibly generous.
In addition to these sample packs, the collective publishes music from its members on an online platform, runs events, and maintains a Discord server aimed at promoting “education, collaboration and friendship.” They do all this for free too, so I highly encourage you to appreciate what they do and support their work through Gumroad if you find a use for these samples.
