Miguel, the hitmaker of the viral “Sure Thing,” is working on new music.
The R+B star’s 2011 hit has seen a resurgence in popularity after going viral on video-sharing platforms. Even the likes of Kim Kardashian and her daughter North West used his speeded-up version of the track to soundtrack his one of the clips. The app gave the 37-year-old singer the “momentum” to write new songs.
he said:
“To improve my music, I tend to focus on lasers.
“It’s just fascinating to get information that something of me has been featured for so long, and that it’s been featured exponentially week after week.”
Miguel revealed that “Sure Thing” was actually inspired by rap legend Lil Wayne and that he always felt the track was ahead of its time.
Back then, Lil Wayne was having a real moment here in America.He had a very unique style. ”
Miguel continues: I was fusing a hip hop approach while writing.
“Nobody wanted to sign me. It made no sense to them. I think the industry was looking for something more traditional at the time [R+B] artist. “
More than a decade after its release, he told London’s Evening Standard: Thank you to the people who found the song and made it for me. It’s wild – it’s crazy. ”
As with new music in the works, the Coffee hitmaker has also revealed that he is eager to make a long-awaited return to the UK for some live shows.
he said: I can’t wait to go see how many different fans there are. It is a great blessing and nothing less than a lot of fun. ”
Miguel’s last studio album was 2017’s War and Leisure.
