Educational experts have long praised music for its ability to promote cognitive growth and improve brain health in children. Her thirteen seniors in the Valley Stream District were able to do just that by attending the Nassau Music Educators Association’s Parent Educator and Children’s Festival. NMEA’s mission is to “enrich school music programs by fostering student musicianship and empowering members through collaboration and professional development.”
Students engaged in interactive music learning experiences that included activities ranging from playing vocals and drum rhythms to playing the ukulele. Through the experience of learning music, students gained confidence, developed creative thinking, and developed coordination skills, among other benefits.
“Valley Stream School District 13 has a robust and comprehensive elementary music program that provides opportunities for all students,” said Superintendent Judith LaRocca. “These special events are made available thanks to the dedication of our district music teachers and district music teachers throughout Nassau County. Thank you to Randazzo, Jeremy Arndt, Amy Yentchalis and Amanda Agosta.”
