For the third consecutive year, NPR partnered with globalFEST in January 2023 to host a thrilling online music festival called Tiny Desk Meets globalFEST. Noura Mint Seymali is one of Mauritania’s leading artists on the international stage. Drawing on the timeless repertoire of Moore’s griots, a genetic class of music poets and historians, her band fused traditional Mauritanian instruments within an electrified psychedelic rock band, a hypnotic It evokes a full-fledged sandstorm of jutsu grooves. Extending sounds born from her Arab and sub-Saharan roots, her Noura Mint Seymali bends the arc of Moorish musical traditions to fit the contemporary moment.
