All to Well: A Short Film It came from a song Swift recorded in 2012. The song, titled “All Too Well,” is largely believed to be about Swift’s short-lived relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal. A decade later, Swift turned her hit song into a groundbreaking short film and directed the project herself.

Filmed largely in one continuous shot, this scene follows her and him after a dinner party. During the party scene, viewers are seen ignoring O’Brien’s character to lively entertain her older friends. Then, abruptly, the music stops and the viewer is drawn into a partly scripted, partly improvised discussion between the characters.
The scene is what Swift describes as a “portal” that gives a glimpse into the lives of the characters. “It really comes down to her thinking [Sink’s character] He does not feel seen in this relationship and on some level he [O’Brien] Neither”
