Snoop Dogg and Gloria Estefan among 2023 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees


Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan, Electric Light Orchestra’s Jeff Lynne and more have been inducted into the 2023 Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Thad, Teddy Riley, Glenn Ballard and Liz Rose will also be honored at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony on June 15 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York.

A rap icon known for such hits as “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Gin and Juice,” Snoop is the former Hip-Hop Hall of Famer Missy Elliott and Jay Elliott. Following in Z’s footsteps, he was recognized for his songwriting.

Estefan is known for the classics “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” and “Let’s Get Loud,” while ELO star Lynne is known for “Mr. Blue Sky,” “Evil Woman,” and “Hold On Tight.”

Songwriters Hall of Fame president Nile Rodgers said in a statement: Without them, there would be no recorded music, no concert business, no merchandise.

“The slate of 2023 is about not just iconic songs, but diversity and unity across genres, ethnicities and genders, enriching our lives and bringing the music and the billions of people around the world to life in that era, literally. It represents a songwriter who changed the lives of listeners.”

Mariah Carey and Lil Nas X were among those recognized at the 2022 inauguration.

The former called for more women to be considered for the Hall of Fame.

At the ceremony, she said, “I read that out of the 439 people inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, only 32 have ever been women.”

And rapper Nas, 23, who won the Hal David Starlight Award, which honors young songwriters making an impact in the music industry, called for more diversity at the award.

Meanwhile, Snoop has just announced rescheduled dates for his UK and Ireland tours.

The legendary star kicks off his arena tour at Belfast’s SSE Arena on March 14, followed by Manchester, Glasgow, London, Dublin, Leeds and Birmingham.

Snoop will be joined by his pals and collaborators Warren G, Tar Dogg Pound, Obie Trice and D12.

Irish rap duo Versatile are also on tour with icons of the West Coast scene.
