Last night (February 10), Motley Crue and Def Leppard kicked off their highly anticipated 2023 “The World Tour” at Hard Rock Live at the Mark G. Ettes Arena in Atlantic City, New Jersey. It’s also the first Motley Crue show to tour with John 5, who officially replaced Mick Mars in October 2022, making it very exciting and historic for multiple reasons. .
As reported by Ultimate Classic Rock, John 5 was “the first musician to go on stage and gesture for the crowd to roar before starting the ‘Wild Side’ riff. He stayed on stage all night.” and added some cool new twists and solos to Mars’ faithful rendition of the guitar part.”
UCR also noted that bassist Nikki Sixx introduced John 5 midway through the show. Afterwards, “the guitarist took a short solo spot and led the group’s nightly medley of cover songs. Later in the set, drummer Tommy Lee raved about his new bandmate: Motherfucker is here, 5… man, that sounds beautiful baby!”
As for what they played, they definitely preferred the 1989s Dr. Feelgood, “Kickstart My Heart”, “Same Ol’ Situation (SOS)”, “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)”, and “Dr. Feelgood”. As expected, they generally favored ’80s material and others such as “Wild Side,” “Girls, Girls, Girls,” “Too Fast for Love,” “Shout at the Devil,” and “Live Wire.” I also liked the early standouts.
Interestingly, they ignored the 1994 LP of the same name. and 1997s generation pig Overall; however, they are their last studio record (2008’s Saint of Los Angeles)the 2019 biopic The Dirt (Est. 1981), and even 1991’s Primal Scream. 10 Years of Decadence 81-91.
Def Leppard didn’t disappoint either, with ‘Hysteria’, ‘Pour Some Sugar on Me’, ‘Rock of Ages’, ‘Bringin’ On the Heartbreak’, ‘Foolin’, ‘Let’s Get Rocked’ and ‘I Promise’. So they also did a great job of representing the entire catalog and career.
Of course, it was only a week ago that Motley Crue shared the first official band photo with John 5. Unsurprisingly, fans have had mixed reactions to the new line-up, but John 5 has proven his merits in a variety of ways over the past few months (including nearly a dozen Motley songs on guitar). playing a crew song).
In other Motley Crue news, Tommy Lee recently posted another Nude photos on social media (lots of funny reactions from Twitter). Additionally, Mick Mars has revealed that he is not completely retiring from music. In fact, he’s working on a “huge” and “loud” new project.
So did you catch this awesome double bill last night? Are you planning on going to see Motley Crue and Def Leppard?
