Rochester’s music scene delivers the hits – Post Bulletin

Rochester-area musicians have produced a ton of songs in 2022. From hip-hop to house, and from “Hard Scrabble Cosmic Americana” to country lullabies, the local music scene is highly creative and productive. Overall, the area musician (including several “alumni”) has released over 30 of his EPs and albums this past year.

Some projects, like Becky Schlegel’s “Lullaby Collection”, have even merged genres. Her releases include folk her art, sheet music, and beautifully sung lullabies for every letter of the alphabet. She was able to document projects on her historic farm while creating an accompanying book that covered her sister’s art.

Becky Schlegel has released a book and recording called “The Lullaby Collection”. Schlegel was photographed at her home near Oronoko on April 6, 2022.

While non-Schlegel musicians record in their home studios, the recording studios in the two areas have had a major impact on how Rochester-area artists have brought their music to the masses. Zach Zurn’s Carpet Booth Studios features Clay Fulton & the Lost Forty’s sophomore roots-rock release ‘Positive Numbers’, Broth’s punk-inspired EP ‘Leftovers’, Cosmic Orphan’s catchy ‘Be My Guard’ and newcomers Indie rock release ‘Locked Out’ from Split Pine.

Carpet Booth Studios has helped record everything from metal to hip-hop, and has contributed to projects with local roots by artists like Good Morning Bedlam’s folk release, Lulu. Zurn produced, engineered and mixed portions of Yung Gravy’s “Marvelous” album. The album’s single, “Betty (Get Money),” which includes a sample of “Never Gonna Give You Up,” debuted on his Billboard Hot 100 in July at the age of 68, was certified gold, and became his number one on Spotify. It was played over a billion times and went viral. Tick tock.

Alex Ortberg’s Blue Lagoon Recording Room has also contributed to several local releases, including the amateur indie soul-rock release “Every Little Thing” and Lucas Horvath’s pop-punk “Blossoms & Bubbles.” Rachel Nunemacher’s ‘The Last Five Years’ EP was another of her standout projects for the Blue Lagoon Recording Room. With a singer-songwriter-inspired pop sensibility, this EP feels both familiar and fresh.

The local hip-hop scene is still alive and well in 2022. There’s everything from locally produced instrumental EPs like Ghostmeat and Jae Havoc to EPs like DaboFlai’s ‘People Think I’m Showing Off’ and J. Martinez’s ‘No Hay Excusas’. Even with serious albums like Just Jayden’s ‘Infinite’, the region’s hip-hop music has left its mark.

Artists in some regions created music to support important causes. Rochesterite James Rechs released the album “D’Ethenol” under the name Wind Farmers. This Lockhe project was created with Aaron Wagner from Grinnell, Iowa. Rechs composed the music to Wagner’s lyrics. After Wagner passed away in 2022, he released ‘D’Ethenol’. Proceeds from the album will be donated to the Grinnell Area Mental Health his consortium in honor of Wagner.

Artists like The Walking Beat have definitely continued the vinyl tradition. Frontman Steve McCauley said: He has that oversized sleeve and deliberately sits down and listens to each song. He forces you to be more involved in the listening process. ”

Meanwhile, Root River Jam continued the double album concept with ‘Love Is Unity ‘Double Jam”. With his epic 13-minute “Hearin’, Pastorale, One Way Road” mashup, the band jams to live up to his band name.

It looks like the local music scene is already gaining momentum heading into 2023. Thomas and the Shakes has announced that the reggae rock-folk inspired ‘Carpet Booth Sessions’, which he has promised to release on January 1, 2023, will also feature singer and songwriter Miriam his Harke. I’m here. Scheduled for release next year.

Other artists have already released singles from projects slated for 2023. Fires of Denmark has released the single “You Make Me Try” from her upcoming album “Magnetism” this December. They describe it as “a constant onslaught of upbeat pop songs with a signature disco-punk beat”. Reggae-inspired Push & Turn released the single “Rise Up” on a custom USB drive on the final Wednesday of his month-long residency at Thesis Beer Project earlier this week. They’re promising a special deal to anyone who brings home a USB at their album his release show scheduled for the New Year.

This article and the following list do not include all musical productions in this region for 2022 and beyond, not even trying to score singles, but the musical potential of our community. gives you a solid idea about This list has something for almost every taste. Support your local live music scene and inspire music creators to write and record more songs. Let’s keep singing in 2023.
