Panel held for local artists at JXN Indie Music Week


JACKSON, Mississippi (WJTV) – Local aspiring singers, musicians and producers had the opportunity to learn from the business world at Saturday’s “Do the Knowledge” panel.

This panel is part of JXN Indie Music Week. The local talent was able to speak with his members of the panel, which included local agents, copyright attorneys, music producers and producers of NPR’s “Tiny Desk” concert his series.

Panelists discussed how to enter the music industry and how to succeed as an independent artist.

“You have to do your homework. You have to research. Before you do anything, it’s important to know the business of music. Before we get into the talent part, first make sure your business is straight, business is the most important thing Bad Frankin, Founder and Executive Producer of JXN Indie Music Week said:

“Make sure you have an entertainment attorney who understands the music business. You need to have people who understand and can negotiate so you can focus and get the most out of your creativity,” said Kamel King, copyright attorney at Frascogna Law Group. .

JXN Indie Music Week is a seven-day music festival showcasing local independent artists who have chosen to create their own music rather than signing to major record labels. Artists say the indie music scene is a big part of Mississippi’s music culture.

“What we’re doing is one of the biggest things going on in our city right now. I think it’s one of the festivals.”

JXN Indie Music Week concludes with a film and video showcase at the Capri Theater on Sunday from 2-4pm.
