Music Department hosts Experience Music Day 2023

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a conductor, play for a hot mic, perform with an entire symphony, groove on stage or shine?

On Saturday, January 21, from 2:00 pm to 5:15 pm, the University of Nevada, Reno School of Music will host an “Experience Music Day” at the University Foundation Arts and Church of Fine Arts buildings. This open house event is intended for students, parents, or community members seeking opportunities to learn about music performance, music education, jazz, recording arts, composition, and music history at the college level.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet a diverse faculty including members of the Instrumental, Vocal, Jazz and Music Education departments. Additionally, the Faculty of Arts brings together musicologists, composers, conductors, large ensemble directors, and recording engineers to discuss what it means to study music at university. It will also be attended by representatives from musical fraternity and sorority so that prospective students can explore what Greek musical life looks like on campus.

The School of Arts hosts a variety of performance groups, including student wind, brass, string, voice and percussion chamber ensembles, student jazz combos, Wolf Pack Pep Band, mariachi ensembles, piano soloists, and faculty performers.

Registration for this event is free. However, we recommend that you register in advance. Those interested can visit for the entire event or just for a few hours to experience what it’s like to attend a major, minor, or musical at the University of Nevada, Reno.
