Ed Sheeran was a good fit with his rugged heart and love of Yale when he played an impromptu gig at Hobbiton.
The British singer-songwriter took a detour from her current New Zealand tour to visit Hobbiton, the outdoor film set featured in Peter Jackson’s legendary film. Lord of the Ring movie and its Hobbit Prequel.
In a TikTok round-up clip, Sheeran swings a guitar at the final destination of his LOTR tour, the Green Dragon Inn, performing his 2013 single “I See Fire.” hobbit kingdom stolen by dragon.
“We had an unexpected guest at the Green Dragon Inn tonight,” said our tour guide. Tour guides welcome thousands of guests each year to the Waikato set in New Zealand’s North Island. And the Nuggety Halfling score.
The surprise didn’t end there. Sheeran stopped by Auckland’s Kowai Middle School and Manurewa Middle School for a surprise performance of hers. You can see the video of the event here.
Sheeran completes New Zealand legs + – = ÷ x tour (pronounced “The Mathematics Tour”) on Saturday (February 11th) at Eden Park in Auckland. He then heads west for the Australian Stadium Tour. It will also be produced by Frontier Touring and will begin on Friday 17th February at Suncorp Stadium.
Britt is a touring juggernaut in these parts. His 2017 Divide On tour of Australia, Sheeran sold over one million tickets, breaking the all-time record for a single tour set by Dire Straits in the 1980s. It will take place at Optus Stadium in Perth on March 12th.
