The 4th annual Kaloga Lake Music Festival Winterfest kicks off tonight at 7pm at the Nick Stoner Inn with a series of 4 holiday concerts featuring 18 performers from 5 countries and 7 states.
Kyle Price, founder and artistic director of the Kaloga Arts Collective (CAC), says the annual winter concert series is similar to the CAC’s five-week summer series, only more condensed in format. is.
“It’s essentially part of the summer experience, but winter weather in upstate New York,” he said. WinterFest series times and venues are as follows:
- Nick Stoner Inn, ‘Sandersfest Christmas’ with Jeff and Rich Sanders tonight at 7pm — $15 general admission. “Jeff lives in Nashville and Rich lives in New York City, so they’re going to play some of their holiday favorites, but with a bit of a folk/bluegrass tinge,” Price said. rice field.

- St. John’s Episcopal Church, Johnstown, Saturday 7:00 p.m. “Hallelujah, it’s Handel!” — Admission is free, donations accepted. “These are classical works by composer Handel, who composed ‘Messiah,’ a very popular song played during the holidays,” Price said. “This is a really beautiful program, especially in a church with great acoustics.”
WinterFest is part of CAC’s capital campaign to build an amphitheater and other upgrades aimed at transforming the 8-acre former Sherman’s Amusement Park on Route 10 into a world-class music venue, Price said. It’s a fundraising event.
The first phase of the project will build a stage and climate-controlled backstage area along the waterfront with the goal of year-round operation. The stage itself is large enough to accommodate a small audience during intimate events.
Last year, CAC received a $1 million grant from the New York State Council of Arts for Sherman’s project.
The nonprofit CAC had already raised $1 million.
Since then, the CAC’s total fundraising campaign has reached about $2.9 million, according to Price, and the organization is now expecting a $5 million project, which includes Myhill House on 10.5 acres of Myhill. This includes building housing for musicians called Located about 400 meters from Sherman’s.
“Our current goal is actually to raise $5 million to build simultaneously at Myhill and Sherman’s,” says Price.
CAC has hired Albany-based Consigli Construction to do pre-construction work on the Sherman’s/Myhill project, Price said.
“We are very confident with Consigli at the helm,” said Price. “They have designed some other really great venues such as the Rockport Music Hall and several other facilities that deal specifically with performing arts centers in lakeside and seaside facilities.”
Brad and Darla Dake have pledged to make matching donations of up to $10,000 to Sherman’s/Myhill’s capital campaign, Price said.
“We hope that it will help us reach our ultimate goal,” said Price. Through the Foundation, I was able to receive donations that basically helped build it.My Hill.”
Price said CAC is looking forward to building the eight-bedroom, four-bathroom year-round My Hill Residence, which is expected to break ground in the spring or early summer of 2023.
“This will allow us to get more involvement throughout the year. At Shermans, we are still looking at funding, which means we will likely start construction in 2024.” said Price.
