Billie Eilish, BTS Songs Are the Best Music to Fall Asleep to – The Hollywood Reporter

Some A-list artists like Billie Eilish, BTS and Khalid are responsible for helping people fall asleep, according to a new study released Wednesday.

Researchers at Aarhus University in Denmark analyzed 225,626 tracks from 985 Spotify playlists related to sleep. The group then used software from an audio streaming platform to compare sleep songs to common music.

Sleep music tends to be quiet and slow and features acoustic instruments. However, according to their findings, shared in the journal PLOS One, a significant amount of diversity existed in some of the six categories of sleep music.

The authors of the study noted, “In examining the characteristics of music used for sleep, sleep music is generally softer, slower, more instrumental than other music, and is often played on acoustic instruments.” Nonetheless, the music that people use for their sleep displays is of great variation, including music characterized by high energy and tempo.”

Three categories contained typical sleep music tunes, while others contained louder, more energetic music. Some of the tracks were popular songs such as “Dynamite” by K-pop group BTS and “lovely” by Billie Eilish and Khalid.

“This study not only informs the clinical use of music, but also advances our understanding of how music is used to control human behavior in everyday life.” added the research team.

Researchers theorize that high-energy songs can relax people because of their familiarity, but determining why people choose that particular type of music requires additional research. Overall, the study found that there is no one-size-fits-all type of music that people listen to when falling asleep.
