Musician and BYU Music Professor Christian Asplund will host the 12th Annual Boxing Day Salon on Monday, December 26, 2022 at 8pm.
For nearly 25 years, composer Christian Asplund, a professor of music at Brigham Young University, has introduced residents of the area to the intimate setting of music salons.
Music salons generally offer instrumental music that is light, pleasant to the ear, and sentimental. According to Google, it’s better suited for drawing rooms than concert halls.
On Monday, Asplund and guests will host the 12th Annual Boxing Day Salon at 8pm at The Blue Door at 349 W. 400 South in Provo. The salon is holiday themed. The community is invited to this free post-Christmas event.
Raised in Canada, Asplund celebrated Boxing Day from a young age, continuing a lifelong tradition in Utah County.
Historically, Boxing Day continued with holiday celebrations when the upper classes gave boxes of clothes and items to the poor and served leftover dinners to servants who had to work on Christmas Day. It was time.
Boxing Day was first put to paper in the popular Charles Dickens novel The Pickwick Papers. In 1833, the clergy also distributed the contents of alms for the poor collected by church members.
For Asplund, he’s not only sharing his traditions, he’s facilitating relaxing nights enjoying the extended holiday season.
This year’s guests are from all over the country. Includes:
- Los Angeles native Logan Horn plays ragtime piano and original banjo ditties.
- Chicago’s Lula Asplund provides electronic music using light sensors and processing pianos.
- We are set to release the Kings and play avant-garde jazz.
Other performers include Jesse Keveman Turley and Stuart Wheeler from Los Angeles, Melissa Heath and Christian Asplund from Provo, Johnny Sterlings and Morton Feldman from San Diego.
“It’s going to be a blockbuster this year,” said Christian Asplund. “As always, bring your leftover treats and place them on the table. Even if the number of items is small, we will curate them with other similar items. No, but others don’t, so make good use of them.
